State Infection Control Guidelines

Posted By Chris on March 27, 2011

I live and work in Southern California; the resources I depend on for information regarding Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines in Long-term Care for California are gathered here:

The California Department of Public Health Infection Control Guidelines for Long-term Care

Each state develops their own guidelines; those are usually drawn from multiple sources including the CDC, OSHA and CMS; they may or may not be somewhat modified but are written to reflect Evidence Based and Best Practice Standards.

If you are new to Long-term Care or have not seen your state Infection Control Guidelines, you can Google them by adding your state name to the above URL. It’s probably close enough to get you there.

Once you find these guidelines you can create a link to them and keep them on your computer desktop for easy reference. These guidelines cover most clinically significant illnesses found in Long-term Care and are included in many Infection Control Manuals. The guidelines are usually lengthy and often make for intense reading, but they are the foundation of infection control policies in Long-term care.

Once you become familiar with state guidelines, try your County Department of Public Health web site and research those guidelines as well.
