The Preventionist

Hello, my name is Chris Walter. I am an Infection Prevention Nurse Consultant working in the Long-term Care environment in Southern California.  I enjoy writing and so two years ago, decided to create a web site dedicated to Long-term Care Infection Control Nurses.

Since graduating from nursing school in 1975, there have been many specialties of interest including Surgery, Case Management, Legal Nurse Consulting, Community Health, and Infection Prevention and Control, a specialty I have focused on for the past eight years. Along the way I’ve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a California Public Health Nursing Certificate.

Working with Nurses, Physicians, Healthcare Workers and Administrators has put me in touch with many of the questions, concerns and situations typical to both Acute and Long-term Care environments. 

My hope is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and resources with anyone interested in the specialty of Infection Prevention and Control and to provide links to scientific, evidence based guidelines and recommendations from the masters of infection control and prevention including:

• The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC)
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
• State and County Departments of Public Health.
